My French press kicked my espresso machine's butt for two weeks straight

So I got this fancy espresso setup about a month ago, the whole grinder and machine combo, spent close to $500 total. I was dialing in shots every morning, weighing beans, timing everything, and still getting sour or bitter pulls half the time. Last week my machine just stopped heating up, no idea why. I dug out my old 4 cup French press from the back of the cabinet since I was desperate. Same beans, same water temp, just let it steep for 4 minutes and pressed. That cup was so much smoother and sweeter than anything I pulled on the machine. Did it every morning since, zero stress, zero mess. Now I'm wondering if I even need the machine or if I just like the ritual of pretending to be a barista. Has anyone else gone backwards to a simpler brewer and stuck with it?
