Comparing my 3 dollar store mugs to a proper ceramic one, no contest

Honestly, I used to think a mug was just a mug. Last month I grabbed three cheap mugs from a dollar store near my apartment in Cleveland, figuring they'd do the job. But after using one of my friend's thick ceramic mugs from a local pottery shop, I can't go back. The thin dollar store ones lose heat like crazy, my coffee goes lukewarm in like 15 minutes. The ceramic one holds warmth for almost 40 minutes, which matters when I'm working from home and forget to sip. Also the rim feels way smoother, no weird lip on the glaze that chipped after two washes. Has anyone else noticed this big a difference, or am I just being picky about my morning cup?
