Barista told me my milk texture was "soupy" and she was totally right

I've been making latte art at home for like 3 years now and thought I had it down. Last month I went to a little shop in Portland and the barista watched me pour, then said my milk had the texture of soup, not paint. I was annoyed at first but asked her to show me. Turns out I was aerating way too long, like 8 seconds on a 12 ounce pitcher, which made all these big bubbles that popped immediately. She showed me to stop at 3 seconds and just roll the milk until it felt like warm velvet on my hand. First try after that, my rosetta actually held its shape instead of turning into a blob. Now I set a timer on my phone for every steam session, no joke. Has anyone else gotten a random tip from a stranger that completely changed their daily routine? I feel like I wasted so much milk getting this wrong.
