The opposite shift at that shop in Dayton made me question everything about coolant
Went in for a night shift fill-in at a job shop outside Dayton, Ohio. They run the same aluminum parts we do, but their coolant mix was like milk and water, thin. Everyone there swears by a 5% concentration, says thick coolant is for old machines. I ran their way for 12 hours, zero tool wear issues, surfaces came out cleaner than my usual 8% at home base. Now I'm testing 5% on my own mill this week. Any of you run a lean mix on older spindles without problems, or am I asking for trouble?
