Pro tip: Skip the grocery store kale and grow your own in a backyard bed
I was at a community garden in Portland last summer and this older guy told me he hasn't bought a single plastic-wrapped vegetable in 5 years. He just handed me a handful of chard from his plot and said 'this is the real climate action, not what you read online.' Anyone else tried switching to a full home garden instead of buying produce?

That line about "this is the real climate action, not what you read online" hits hard. I haven't gone full home garden yet but I'm honestly shocked at how much one guy can grow.

Oh man, this is exactly what I needed to hear! I used to roll my eyes at the whole "grow your own food" thing because I thought it was just for people with tons of free time and fancy setups. But @oscarcooper you're totally right about that quote, it really does hit different once you see it in action. I started with just three tomato plants in a raised bed last spring and I swear it changed my whole view on what's possible. The thing that got me was how much produce you can actually get from a small space, like way more than you'd think. Now I'm planning to add kale and some other greens for next year, no more buying those sad plastic bags for me.
