Update: My block's push for annual cleanings is overkill and wasteful.

Most chimneys only need cleaning every two years with proper use.

We've gone three years just by burning dry, seasoned wood hot.

Actually depends a lot on how much you use your fireplace. A lot of folks who burn clean and hot can go longer than two years.

@marymorgan, I read that burning clean and hot means less cleaning.
