Can we talk about switching from a wire brush to a flat scraper on glazed creosote?
Got called out to a place in Rochester last month where the flue was caked with stage 3 glazed creosote, and my usual wire brush just polished it instead of taking it off. I picked up a flat 4 inch scraper for $18 at the supply house and spent about 40 minutes on the first section, going at it by hand before touching the brush at all. The difference was obvious right away, the scraper pulled off curls of that shiny black stuff that the brush had been sliding over for months. I got the full flue clean in under two hours instead of the four hour mess I was bracing for. Curious what tools other folks reach for on glazed buildup, because I feel like I have been doing it the hard way for a while now.
