Brush vs rotary on a frozen crown, which side are you on after that Sub-Zero job in Duluth?

I hit a chimney last January where the flue was caked in ice and the rotary chewed through it in 20 minutes but left furrows that took me an hour to smooth out, meanwhile my old brush took 40 minutes and left it clean, so do you prioritize speed or surface integrity when conditions like that show up?

Read somewhere that a guy who does chimney restorations up in the UP swears by the rotary but only if you run it slow and wet. He said the furrows are actually surface scoring that can catch creosote later, which is a real problem. For my money, if the ice is that bad, I'm taking the extra 20 minutes with the brush. Speed means jack when you gotta go back and fix your own mess. That Duluth job sounds like a textbook case for the brush, honestly.
