Walked into my old line cook spot in Austin last week, felt like a museum

Stopped by the kitchen where I did my first sauté station back in 2009. Same hood, same pans, but nobody uses the salamander anymore. That thing was my best friend during Friday night rushes. Now the kids just torch everything with a hand burner. Also saw they swapped the old ticket rail for a tablet. I miss yelling out orders. Anyone else ever go back to an old kitchen and feel like a ghost?

Man, people get so dramatic about this stuff... it's a kitchen, not a time capsule. Things change, that's how it goes. You stood there flipping eggs a decade ago, so what? The food still gets cooked, the tickets still get fired. Yeah the salamander's collecting dust and they got tablets now, but that's just how kitchens evolve. You're not a ghost, you're just a dude who used to work there. Maybe save the nostalgia for something that actually matters, like your old spot getting shut down or something.
