Why does everyone skip the noise reduction when dubbing?

I've been trading tapes for about 2 years now and I keep getting dubs where the hiss is so loud it drowns out the music, especially on quiet parts. Most decks have Dolby B or C right there, but people act like pushing that button is some kind of betrayal. Is it just me, or should we all be using it when we make copies for swaps?
