Why is everyone here so scared of stretching seams tight?

Why is everyone here so scared of stretching seams tight? I keep seeing posts where folks say to leave a little slack in the seam to avoid ripples, but that's backwards in my book. Did a 2,400 sq ft office job in Austin last month where the previous crew left every seam loose, and it looked like waves by week two. I've been installing 14 years and I always pull seams with a knee kicker until the pattern lines up flush, then power stretch the whole field after. The key is checking your tackstrip spacing, not babying the carpet. Has anyone else had to rip out a slack seam job or am I the only one who thinks this is a real problem?
