Carpet seam placement behind a light beam cost me a redo last month

Job in Austin, TX, had a vaulted ceiling with a wide beam right down the middle, and I ran the seam square along it at 8 feet. The homeowner walked in at 3 PM, saw the seam shadows at a certain angle, and demanded the whole room re-stretched. Should I have angled the seam diagonally to kill the shadow, or is this just a bad beam layout problem?

You ever notice how light hits seams different depending on what time of day it is? I had a job where the client only came by at noon and swore the carpet was two different colors, turned out it was just the sun through a skylight hitting the pile backwards. I angled a seam once on a curved staircase and it looked worse than just running it straight, so I kinda think beams are just gonna do what they do no matter what you do with em. The real fix is probably telling folks to check the room at like 4 PM before you even lay a row, cause they always find something when the shadows get long.
