A 25 year vet changed how I prep seams, wish I met him sooner
Last week I was on a big commercial job in Phoenix and this old timer named Hank watched me run a seam. He pointed out I was stretching both sides before I made the cut, said that's why I get those tiny gaps when the carpet relaxes. He showed me to cut first with the stretcher off, then tension just one side before seaming. I've been doing this 12 years and never once thought about it that way. Has anyone else switched to that method, or do you keep both sides tight?

Both sides tight keeps it flat. One side lets it walk on you.
