Question about picking wood from a guy at the lumberyard

He saw me looking confused and told me how to check for twists. Now I always ask for help when choosing boards.

Yeah, that part about building knowledge making you better really hits home. I read that just handling boards over and over is what really trains your eye.

Real skill comes from doing it yourself. Watching helps, but your hands need to learn it.

Actually, learning to check for twists yourself is a key skill. If you always ask for help, you never really learn what to look for. It takes practice, but once you get it, you can pick boards fast and with confidence. Sure, ask questions when you're starting out, but try to do it on your own after a while. Relying on others every time can slow you down and might not always be reliable. Building that knowledge makes you a better woodworker overall.
