My client in Chicago told me to never take a promotion without a pay bump.

He said he watched his buddy at a tech firm get a 'senior' title and double the work for the same money. I always thought a title was a step up, but now I ask for the salary sheet first. Anyone else get that advice early on?

Yeah that tracks... feels like a lot of things are built that way now. Like phone plans that give you a "free" upgrade but lock you into a longer, pricier contract. Or those apps that are free at first, then you hit a wall where you have to pay to keep using the basic stuff. It's all just little traps dressed up like a step forward.
