Stopped winching straight and started walking my ATV out at a 30 degree angle, night and day difference in the muskeg near Sudbury
Got my 2016 Sportsman 570 buried to the racks in a bog off a trail near Sudbury two weekends back, and I was about ready to call it a day after 45 minutes of straight pulling that just dug me deeper. My buddy who has been riding since he was a kid told me to stop yanking straight back and instead pull at about a 30 degree angle to one side of the bike, so the tires climb out of the rut instead of plowing through it. Took me three tries to trust it but the machine came out in maybe 20 seconds once I set the angle right, and I barely touched the throttle. The trick is chaining the strap to a tree that isn't directly behind you, and letting the front end swing toward the anchor point. Anyone else ride the angle or do you just keep straight-lining it and hope for the best?
