My old sleeping bag kept me warm during a surprise cold snap...
I was camping up in the mountains the other day when the temperature dropped way more than expected. My decades-old sleeping bag, which I almost didn't bring, ended up being perfectly cozy all night. What gear have you kept for years that still does the job?

Camping in Yellowstone last year, I used my dad's 1985 canvas tent. It still sets up perfect every fall. The original poles have survived so many storms. Why does new gear feel so disposable? I've only needed two patches in all these years. What changed in how we make things?

Seriously, that's awesome when old gear comes through like that. My beat-up hiking boots from college are still my go-to, lol. What material is the sleeping bag filled with, and have you noticed any cold spots developing over the years?

Actually, my sleeping bag is just cheap polyester fill from a big box store, nothing fancy! It's probably the same stuff they use in couch cushions. The cold spots are totally there, mostly where my knees bend, but I just sleep in sweatpants to help. Oof, that makes it sound like I'm roughing it way more than I am. Honestly, this old bag and I have been through so much, it's outlasted most of my past relationships, lol.
