My dad's old canvas tent from the 80s is still in the garage
I was helping him clean out the garage yesterday and saw his old green canvas tent, the one he used on our fishing trips. He said it weighs about 25 pounds and you had to treat it with something every year. It made me think about how my new tent is half the weight and pops up in a minute. Do you guys ever miss the old, heavy gear, or is it just me?

Ever notice how everything feels more disposable now? That tent was built to last decades with a little care, but my new stuff just feels cheap. I kinda miss when things were made to be fixed, not thrown out.

Is it really that big of a deal though? Keithwalker might have a point about new not always being better, but a lot of that old stuff was heavy, expensive, and not as good at its job. My new tent weighs nothing and keeps me bone dry. Sometimes cheap and light is what you actually need.

Yeah, I used to think new was always better too.
