My brother said my old tent from 2012 is a 'safety hazard' now
He pointed out the degraded seam tape and said 'that's not gear, that's a plan to get wet.' Has anyone else had a piece of kit age out without you noticing?

My old sleeping bag from 2010 basically turned into a flat sheet with no loft. I was so used to it I didn't even see it, until my friend asked why I was bringing a comforter to a winter trip. It's crazy how gear just wears out when you're not looking. I mean, you use it and put it away and it slowly falls apart. Your brother is totally right about that seam tape, once it goes you're just carrying a fancy tarp.

My 2012 bag still lofts fine because I store it loose in a big cotton sack. The seam tape is shot though, you're right about that.

Wait you're still using a 2012 bag for actual trips? That's wild. Mine from 2015 is basically a flat pancake no matter how I store it. The loft is just gone. Your cotton sack trick must be magic.
