So I attempted to fix a sticky shutter on an old Pentax with a drop of lighter fluid

I mean, I saw it suggested on some obscure forum and figured it was worth a shot on a junker body. The shutter blades are now permanently fused together, so that was a $50 lesson in why you don't use random solvents. Has anyone actually had luck with a specific, safe cleaner for this issue?

The old-timers at my local camera club swear by Ronsonol for sticky leaf shutters. It's a specific, pure naphtha lighter fluid without additives. That's the key difference from random hardware store stuff.

Reminds me of people using WD-40 on door hinges.

My buddy tried that and wrecked his Contax.
