My old lunch trays had real grip, these new foam ones slide everywhere and nobody talks about it
Tbh I think the biggest thing people miss about tray building is that the tray itself matters way more than the stacking tricks. Back when I was at Lincoln Middle around 2009, those hard brown plastic trays had this bumpy texture on the bottom that locked together like Lego when you stacked them, and I built a four foot ramp off the lunch table that held a full milk carton no problem. Now I watch my little brother stack the new foam trays they switched to about three years ago and the whole thing slides apart halfway up, so his towers top out at like three trays before they wobble. It's not that kids got worse at building stuff, the trays just lost all their grip. I tested it myself last month in the cafeteria during parent lunch day, stacked six old style trays I borrowed from the storage closet against six new ones, and the old stack never budged while the new one tipped over on tray four. So before you blame your technique, check what kind of tray your school has, because a foam tray ramp will never hold the way the plastic ones did. Has anyone else's school switched trays and noticed their forts suddenly falling apart way easier?
