That friend who said my zip ties were too tight actually had a point
Was at his place last week and he pointed out my ethernet cable was crimped at a 90 degree angle from being cinched down too hard, and now I'm finding brittle spots on 3 other cables I did the same way. Anybody else ever had to redo a whole run because of overtightening?

Yeah that stings, I've had to reterminate half a dozen cables the same way.

Hate to disagree but sometimes it's just bad technique. Properly stripped and seated cables shouldn't need a redo that often if you take your time on the first one. Might be worth slowing down and checking your tool calibration before blaming the cables.
