The hostel guy in Lisbon who showed me the free food map

Met a guy at a hostel in Lisbon last summer who refused to pay for any meals. He pulled up a Google Maps layer he made with 40+ spots for free food - grocery samples, church meals, and hotel breakfast buffets you can walk into. Told me he spent 3 weeks in the city on 50 euros for food total. I stuck with him for 2 days and saved about 30 bucks myself. Has anyone else found a solid free food network in a big city like that?
