After seeing a trillium get dug up, I'm torn.

My friend collected a wild trillium on our hike. It's a protected plant in many states. When is it okay to take plants from nature?

Trilliums can take seven years to flower from seed. It's basically never okay to take protected plants from the wild, that's why the laws exist. Your friend really shouldn't have done that.

Did they at least try to replant it?

Ask @skyler_robinson if ANY exceptions to plant-taking laws exist?
