Used to finish every book for club, now I put it down at page 50 and just show up to talk
For about 4 years I forced myself through every pick, even a 700 page one about the Napoleonic wars that took me 3 weeks of dread. Around last fall I started dropping anything that didn't grab me by page 50, and I told our group of 11 people that I'd be honest about it. The funny part is the talk got better. When 3 of us admitted we bailed on the same book, we talked for a full hour about why it failed instead of just praising it. Does your club let people show up having quit the book, or is that seen as rude?
