Saw a book club at the Maple Grove library argue for 40 minutes over a question in the back of the paperback
I was killing time at the Maple Grove library last Tuesday waiting on a load and sat near a book club meeting that had maybe 11 people in it. What caught my ear was that they never talked about the story itself, just the 12 discussion questions printed in the back of the paperback, one after another like a worksheet. A woman near the end finally said "can we just talk about whether we liked it" and got shut down by the leader because they still had 4 questions left. I get wanting structure, but it made me wonder how many clubs are running off publisher questions instead of the actual book. Does your group write its own questions or do you use the ones in the back?
