Just realized a simple question can save a book club debate from going in circles
During a heated discussion about 'The Great Gatsby' in my living room, my friend Mark asked, 'What line in the text makes you think that?' It forced everyone to back up their opinions with the actual book. What's your go-to move for keeping a discussion grounded?

Sometimes a wild tangent is more fun than sticking to the text.

Totally agree. Once spent a whole book club meeting arguing about what kind of sandwiches the characters would eat. Never even opened the book.
