Wooden insert vs foam insert for my Dominion box, and one made me want to quit the hobby

I picked up a used Dominion set at a flea market in Dayton for $15 and the cardboard insert was shredded, so I ordered a $30 foam insert online and spent 90 minutes trying to get 500 cards to stay in their slots. Then my buddy lent me his wooden insert and everything slid in flat in about 5 minutes, no cards popping out when I tipped the box. Is it worth paying $60+ for a custom wooden insert, or does anyone have a cheaper trick that actually works?
