Figured out my scroll work looked sloppy because I was hammering at the anvil's edge instead of over the base
Spent 6 months wondering why my scrolls kept flattening out until a guy at the Abana meet in Ohio grabbed my tongs and moved my work about 3 inches back toward the horn, and now I feel dumb but the curves are finally even so has anyone else caught themselves working too far off the anvil?

Ha, bet your hammer marks changed too, closer to the horn means less dent.
