Did the foil actually make it worse or did you just learn to use it better? I had a similar thing with an old guy at a shop near me who always gave me grief about spritzing. Took me a while to see he wasn't wrong, just that his way worked for his setup and mine needed something different. Four years is about right for that kind of lesson to sink in, in my experience.
