Rant: My basil got some weird white spots that took forever to figure out

I noticed these powdery white patches on the leaves of my balcony basil about three weeks ago and thought it was just dust at first. It turned out to be powdery mildew, and I spent over a week trying different homemade sprays before the milk and water mix finally worked. Has anyone else dealt with this on a small balcony setup and have a faster fix?

That milk trick is a lifesaver for sure. I've read that it works by changing the leaf surface so the fungus can't grow. The one thing I'd add is that once you see those white spots, you should cut off the infected leaves right away and throw them in the trash, not the compost. It helps stop it from spreading so fast while you're getting the spray ready.

Cutting off the leaves reminds me of when I pruned my roses way too aggressively.
