PSA: found green caterpillar eggs hiding under my basil leaves after a Market trip
Heads up for anyone growing herbs on their balcony! I picked up a basil plant at the Saturday farmers market on 5th Street two weeks back, and by day 4 the leaves had tiny holes I blamed on wind damage. When I flipped one leaf over, I counted 14 little white egg clusters lined up along the veins, which turned into green caterpillars about 8 days later. I lost nearly half the plant before I caught it, and my mint right next to it stayed totally fine, so they were picky about which pot they hit. Now I check every new leaf underside twice a week with a flashlight, and I keep a small bottle of soap spray ready. If you buy starter plants from a market, how long do you wait before you trust them enough to skip the daily check?
