Rant: I thought fermented feed was a total myth
I spent 6 months ignoring all the posts about fermenting chicken feed in the Auburn Backyard Chickens group. Then my rooster got a weird crop issue and a buddy threw me a bucket of his fermented stuff to try. Two weeks later the flock is pecking at it like crazy and I'm kicking myself for being stubborn about that sour smell.

...and you didn't even notice the change in their droppings until after a week? I had the same sour smell issue at first, thought the whole thing was a moldy joke. Turns out my girls actually started eating more consistently and stopped wasting so much of their pellet feed.

Wait, you guys can actually smell a difference in the droppings? I thought I was just imagining things because I'd been breathing in onion fumes for twelve hours straight. My birds' feed still looks like a crime scene but I'm honestly too scared to ask if it's normal.
