Predator lights used to be a candle in a coffee can, now I have a $12 sensor
Back in 2012 when I first kept hens outside Columbus, I hung a glass lantern with a tea candle inside the coop every night. It barely did anything but made me feel better, and I nearly lost two birds to a raccoon that spring. Now I use a cheap solar motion light from the hardware store, pointed at the run entrance. It blinks when anything walks by, and my Wyandottes sleep way calmer. Anyone else remember the old candle trick or did I just make that up?

My buddy John tried the candle trick back in 09 and his coop almost caught fire, so he switched to a solar light too.

Solar lights are the way to go, way safer than flames.
