Diatomaceous earth made a huge difference in 3 weeks

I started adding food grade DE to my run back in July after my girls kept doing the dust bath shuffle and still had mites. I sprinkled it everywhere, in the coop corners, under the roosts, and mixed a spoonful into their feed. Three weeks later when I checked under their wings and around the vent, I found maybe two dead mites total. Before that I was seeing clusters of them every time I handled a hen, especially my buff Orpington. The change wasn't instant, it took that full 21 days to break the life cycle, but now I do a light dusting every other Saturday as routine. Has anyone else noticed DE working slower than promised but actually sticking around longer than chemical sprays? I'm curious if the dry climate here in Phoenix affects how often you all reapply.
