Shoutout to the guy in Nashville who showed me my post holes were 6 inches too shallow
Two summers ago I built a 6 foot privacy fence along my back lot line. I dug every post hole 18 inches deep with a clamshell digger, thinking that was plenty. Then a guy at the Nashville hardware store asked how deep my frost line is, and I had no clue. He told me it is 24 inches here, and all my posts had been riding up slowly every winter. Sure enough, seven of my posts were already 3 inches proud of the ground after just one season. Now I am debating whether to pull all 20 posts and redo them properly, or just sister new posts next to the old ones and hide them with pickets. Half of me says do it right, the other half says nobody will ever see it. How would you handle it?
