Hit 40 pallets of reclaimed brick, then stopped counting

Been collecting bricks from dumpster sites around town for my patio project. After stacking number 40 last Sunday I realized I had enough for the walkway and the fire pit base, plus a spare row for mistakes. What surprised me was how the count changed my plan, I stopped hoarding and started laying out the actual pattern. Turns out 40 is the magic number for a 10x12 space if you go with a running bond. Anyone else hit a material count that forced them to commit to a design?

Same deal with me and pavers last fall. I grabbed every freebie from a curb strip reno nearby and the pile hit 32 before I finally said enough. That number forced me to sketch the whole border out on paper just to stop myself from hauling more stone I didn't need. Counting really does turn collecting into building.
