Am I the only one who switched from nails to screws on fence pickets

I built my back fence 4 years ago in Tucson with a nail gun and 16 penny nails, and by last summer about 30 pickets had popped loose from the heat and monsoon winds. I got tired of re-nailing the same spots every spring, so this time I ran 1 5/8 inch deck screws through the rails into each picket instead. The screws take way longer to drive and my drill battery died twice, but six months in not a single picket has moved. If anyone has a faster way to do a whole fence with screws, I would love to hear it.
