Old boss swore by dielectric grease on every connector, I fought it for years

My first lead in Tucson insisted we pack dielectric grease into every cannon plug, even on dry bay stuff. I thought it was a waste of time until a deice boot connector fretted and threw a fail light last fall. It's tacky, messy, and I still hate cleaning it off, but has anyone else seen a greased connector outlast a dry one in a high vibe area?
