Why does nobody talk about impact sockets rounding off after years of use?
I used to think a socket was a socket until last Tuesday when I was pulling lug nuts on a 2012 F-150 and my 19mm impact socket just spun on a bolt head. That thing had been in my box for maybe 8 years, got dropped plenty, and I never thought about wear. I switched to a fresh set from a buddy's Snap-On truck and the same nut came off no problem. Turns out the hex flats on old impact sockets can stretch out, especially if you use them on rusty stuff with a big gun. Now I check my sockets for rounding every few months and replace the worn ones instead of fighting them. Anyone else have a socket fail on them mid-job and blame the bolt first?
