My old dent puller versus the slide hammer rental, what a difference

Last month I had a 1998 F-150 with a crease along the rear quarter panel, and I decided to finally rent a proper slide hammer from the NAPA in Tulsa instead of using my beat-up manual puller. The old tool took me about 45 minutes and left tiny marks I had to bondo over anyway. The rental, which cost like $28 for the day, had a sharper hook and better grip, so the same dent popped out in under 10 minutes. I even had time to test it on a second small dent near the tailgate that I'd been ignoring for weeks. Has anyone else found that a decent slide hammer beats the budget puller by that much, or did I just have a junk old one?
