My old boss swore by mud at 80 grit, and I finally had to call him wrong on a 2019 Civic
Back in March we had a 2019 Civic in the booth at the shop on Grand Ave with a rear quarter that needed a full repaint, and the old timer running the place told me to lay the mud on thick and block it at 80. I did it his way for two days and the sand scratches kept ghosting through the sealer no matter how much primer I sprayed. I pulled it out, knocked it back down, and redid the whole thing starting at 180 with a guide coat, and it came out dead flat in one pass. He was standing right there watching and just shook his head. So how many of you are still starting your mud work at 80 grit, and what's your reason for it?
