That $80 moon filter felt like a waste until last Tuesday

I was so mad after buying this cheap Orion moon filter online. Figured I'd never use the thing because my telescope already shows the moon okay. But last week the moon was so bright it was hurting my eyes through the eyepiece. Threw that filter on and suddenly I could see craters and ridges I never noticed before. The detail was insane, like the moon turned into a 3D model or something. Definitely worth the $80 even if it sits in a drawer most months. Anyone else have a cheap accessory that totally changed how you see something?

And then I realized I'd been basically moon-blind for years. My cheap $30 lens cap filter does the same thing and it's honestly life changing for lunar viewing. The shadows just pop so much better with the glare cut down. Makes you wonder what else we're missing by not using simple stuff like that.

You know, I used to think a filter was just overcomplicating things, but your "moon-blind" comment really hits home. I tried a cheap one last month and I get it now, the shadows really do pop and it makes the whole thing less harsh.
