A guy at the Grand Canyon star party let me look through his 20 inch dob and it wrecked my plans
I drove out to the south rim last spring with my little 6 inch scope and this older guy from Phoenix invited me over to his setup, then told me "stop shooting wide field, you're just collecting stars." He pointed that big dob at M51 and I could see the spiral arms plain as day, and now my whole astrophotography plan feels pointless. Has anyone else ditched their camera rig after looking through a really big scope?
