Shoutout to the guy who told me to skip the ferry and drive around the Puget Sound

I was heading from Seattle to Port Townsend for a weekend trip and had to choose between the 90 minute ferry ride or a 3 hour drive around the sound. The ferry seemed faster, but a local at the coffee shop said the wait times can be wild, especially on a Friday. I took his advice and drove, and sure enough, I saw the ferry line was backed up for over a mile when I passed the terminal. The drive was longer, but I got to stop in some cool little towns like Poulsbo along the way, which I would have missed. It took me about 3 hours and 15 minutes total with the stops, but I felt way less stressed than if I'd been stuck in that line. Has anyone else had a local tip completely change your travel plans for the better?

Totally, I read a travel blog that said the same thing about those Friday ferry lines. They called it the "secret" of just taking the long way. It's not really a secret, it's just listening to people who know the area.

Oh man, local advice is the absolute best. I was in Austin looking for barbecue and almost waited in a crazy long line. Some guy at a gas station told me about a place a few blocks over that was just as good with no wait. It was perfect. Those little tips you only get from people who live there make the whole trip better. Saved me hours.
