The $90 espresso grinder I trusted for a year was crushing my coffee dreams

I finally upgraded from a cheap blade grinder to a burr model last spring, paid $90 for it from a local shop in Austin. Turns out the burrs were misaligned from day one, so my shots came out bitter no matter what I did. I blamed my tamping, the beans, even the water temperature for 12 months. Then a barista friend ran my grinder through a test and showed me the uneven grounds under a magnifier, like half powder half pebbles. Lost way more than $90 in wasted bags of beans, probably $400 total. Has anyone else had a hidden defect that made them doubt their whole routine?
