Caught a stranger's answer at the bus stop, now I ask it myself
Was waiting for the 5:12 downtown last Tuesday and this older guy was helping a kid with homework. The kid asked him how he knows if an answer is right, and the guy said he just checks if it still makes sense to someone who has no clue about the topic. That stuck with me all day. Now when I'm stuck on a code problem or a recipe, I try to explain it to my cat before touching the keyboard. Has anyone else used a weird trick like that to clear their head?

Wow, that cat trick is actually genius! I tried something similar once but with my dog, and it totally works because they don't judge you or interrupt. The best part is when you're explaining it out loud, you hear where your own words get shaky, and that's usually the exact spot where you're stuck. I've even started doing it with inanimate objects when no pets are around, like explaining my problem to a coffee mug. There's something about saying things out loud that forces your brain to slow down and catch the holes in your thinking.
