Spent 30 dollars on a trowel at a museum gift shop in Cairo and it out dug my 80 dollar one

Was poking around the Egyptian Museum gift shop in Cairo back in October and grabbed a cheap trowel as a souvenir. Used it on a dig test pit near Saqqara a few days later and it cut through packed dirt better than the fancy one I brought from home. Anyone else find cheap gear that just works better than the pricey stuff?
