I thought the 'Roman dodecahedron' finds were just hoaxes for years

Kept seeing those weird bronze objects with knobs and holes pop up in England and France, always figured they were fake. Then I read the full report from the Norton Disney dig last year where they found one in a sealed pit with 4th century coins. The context was too solid to ignore. Has anyone else had a find they were sure was nonsense turn out to be real?

Ever been totally convinced a type of artifact was just tourist junk? I had that with those weird lead spindle whorls that look like modern washers. Saw them everywhere at flea markets for years. Then a buddy showed me a whole bunch from a documented Saxon site, all stratified. Felt like a total clown, but it was a good lesson to check the context before writing something off.

Wait, you saw them at flea markets? That's wild.

Yeah, that sealed pit context is a total game changer, isn't it? Makes you wonder what else we've all written off too fast.
