Trying to remove a stump with just a chainsaw and a truck took me 4 hours when a grinder would've done it in 20 minutes.
Honestly, I got stubborn about not wanting to rent a stump grinder for a single job and ended up spending an entire afternoon cutting, digging, and winching, so has anyone found a decent mid-priced rental place near Charlotte?

My uncle in Gastonia tried the truck method on an oak stump last fall and snapped his tow hitch clean off. The repair bill was almost triple what a weekend grinder rental would have cost. Sometimes the hard way teaches you the math the easy way never could. I've heard good things about that rental yard off South Boulevard near the 485 interchange, but I haven't needed them myself yet.

Remember seeing my neighbor pull out a massive pine stump with his F-250 just fine. He soaked the ground for two days first and used a proper tow strap with some slack. The hitch held because he didn't just yank it. It's all about technique, not just raw power. A grinder makes a huge mess with wood chips everywhere, and the rental cost adds up fast if you have more than one stump.

Yep, same thing happened to a buddy of mine in Matthews, the chain snapped and put a dent right in his tailgate.
